Volunteering

I may have given the wrong idea about my plans to volunteer to go to the ravaged areas to help. I am not stupid enough to jump in my car and just head on down. I will have to hook up with an agency or I am just going to be in the way and cause more delays. I would waste time, money, natural resources, and the valuable time of people who are trying to organize things to get assistance to those who need help.

I am working on it. I was given the wrong impression regarding state employees. They have been asked to handle a hotline - and I might volunteer to help with that, even though it's almost a 2-hour drive each way for me to get to Lansing to do it.

People who just want to help and just show up do not generally help out. They get in the way and I do not intend to do that.

Still, I am trying to get hooked up to go. I want to do it.

I am hoping you get hooked up with the best place you can be of use.  My husband wants to offer our home to people, but with both of us working full time, it would be difficult.  The whole situation is like unchartered territory for we as Americans.  It almost feels like it's not enough to just write a check or give a case of water to the Red Cross.  The scope of this thing is just so huge!  My best...rose

Sweetie, doing anything right now is enough.
Manning the phone lines is very important!
You do what you can. That's all we can do.
Love you,
Connie

I'm sure they can use all the help they can get on the hot line and great that you are pursuing other options as well. Will be thinking of you. Doing the best we can with our two refugees here ... Dad and Panda, so much to take care of!

I am sure that you will do a great job wherever you end up going...whether its 2 hours or 10 away.

The important thing is your "spirit of giving" at this time of a national crisis brought on by Mother Nature.

We are all just feeling our way along.

We have just shown up at local disasters, but it is a lot easier around here to just grab a rake after a tornado (to sift for family belongings--I found a diamond ring and a missing earring for a woman once)....good luck. You have a good heart.
