More iStuff

A friend of mine said she had an iPod nano she didn't want, so she sent it to me. I told child it was coming, and she said she wanted to long term temporarily trade with me for her iPod classic that does movies. Using both will help me learn to understand this whole new universe for me.

I am asking for any hints, tips, information, tech stuff, anything you guys can offer on iPods. Consider me a total greenhorn who can learn tech stuff pretty fast and will be able to understand most of the technical information. It is all new to me, even as a concept. I am not sure I like the idea of iTunes.

I would like to be comfy with using the movie feature by the time I go to Las Vegas in a few weeks. I see that now I can rent movies from iTunes, but only for 24 hours. That seems a little harsh to me, since I won't be taking my computer but I will be gone more than 24 hours. So how do I get more movies for the return flight? Hm.

All advice will be cheerfully accepted and read and studied!

My son got a new iPod thing-y, so he gave me his other one.  Of course, I am sitting here waiting for HIM to load it for ME!  I won't have to learn all this technical crap for a few more years, yet!  Good luck!  Jae

You've got me lost, I only have songs on my iPod.  It's not capable of the movies/videos.  I know I saw at Circuit City a gift card you could purchase and it wasn't for iTunes but, it clearly stated on the card that you could transfer the purchases to your iPod.  My daughter was rushing me and she was driving so I couldn't look into that like I wanted.   Good luck with this and sorry I'm of no help.

My iPod is from the pre video days, so I haven't a clue.  I have worked with itunes but I do not find it to be intuitive software.  I have an ipod full of music that I somehow installed...but for me it was a hit or miss process.  My kids whiz through it though.

My daughter found a free program online that lets you rip your dvds for your ipod.  Maybe that would be an option for you for your trip.

iPods will only play iTunes or iMovies unless you have a converter.  It's always a struggle for me when it comes time to "add" or "update" Miss T's.....I like my plain old MP3 player.

Good luck! I still labor when I down load to my tiny $50 Walmart low end MP3...lol

I found your comment funny.  Since I am 61 I will tell you.    First you go to apple.com and look for iTunes.   Then you download the program and after that you pop your CD's into the computer and check "would you like to import?" that cd.   You say yes, and it will copy it into your computer.   Then when you have all the music you will connect your Nano to the computer and you can move the stored music into the Nano.    The apple site has an area of "how to's" if you get stuck.    If I can do it, you can do it.

I think the iPod is great.  I can plug it into the "AUX" button of my new Subaro and drive to California and back and never hear the same song twice, unless I choose to.   The iPod is also great for tradmill walking or going for a walk outside.
