Strike any key

I think there is a conspiracy Out There. I know I am not a computer expert, so I tend to keep my mistakes to myself sometimes.

But - xometimes when I am typing, I suddenly lose the whole thing. I have heard others say that, too, but no one seems to know why it disappears.

Some other times when I am typing, all of a sudden the cursor goes elsewhere and I find I am typing right in the middle of another word, on the address bar, or another box totally unrelated.

Some other times I will be typing and all of a sudden a few words, sentences, or paragraphs disappear. (in fact, it just happened exactly like that - leaving me just the first paragraph. Grrr)

After trying the 4-letter magic words, I will try CTRL+Z and sometimes the words return. Not always, but sometimes. But what made them go away in the first place? The computer only does what we tell it to do, right?

So I figure I have gremlins. I have mentioned this to a few other people, who also have gremlins. This seems to only happen on laptops, and did not happen on my last one.

Does any one know what causes these things to happen? I was a secretary for years before finishing college, and I am a pretty careful typist. I do sometimes lie my wrists on the computer, but not often. So what keys are we bumping?

Or is it really gremlins?

That never happens to me but what does is my computer freezes up or I have an 'awesome' comment going on someone journal...and the stupid thing won't let me entry it grrrrrrrrrr...maybe it is gremlins.  I dunno I think it's just another way that machines are smarter than we are and that they want to make sure we KNOW that!  rose

maybe it was gremlins last night that screwed up my margin thingy..... and i DNT have a laptop... :) what does control z do??

CTRL+Z = undo. I teach my students that it is the magic button and the uh-oh button, lol. If you go to the stop of the AOL screen on the menu bar and click on Edit, the top item is Undo - and on the right, you will see the keystroke - CTRL+Z.

I think we all have AOL gremlins.....the same thing happens to me sometimes, and I don't have a lap top..just a regular Dell computer.

If we lose things . . .  and they never return . . .  where do they go?  AND . . .  who is REALLY in control.  I wonder. . . .

I think it happens to all of us at some point.
Just depends on what kind of mood the
gremlins are in I reckon.  lol

You don't have gremlins.  You have AOL.  Mrs. L

I seem to have this type of problems at work more than at home - maybe cuz those are the days I have to rush.

Enjoyed your blog and congrats for the award. I also volunteer teach at local Senior Center. The favorite key(s) for them are edit/undo so they can bring back everything when they misstroke. They often experience your disappearing text, but by the time they call, they don't know what they did.
Do not have a blog at present, but you may have got me started. thx

My thoughts are that this situation only happens when you have something intriguing or pertinent to say. *Solution, say nothing but useless inane thoughts and they will last a millenium...  My 2 cents anyway...lol
