Go ahead and laugh

Go ahead and laugh. I think my skill set for employment is limited. There probably isn't much of a market for people who can tell bruises caused by a coat hanger from bruises caused by an electric cord. I can tell you which end of a belt was used, and if it was folded or not. I can diffuse the anger of a large, drunken bully fairly well and have him thank me for it. I know what to do with a homeless person living in a dumpster and I know how to fill out transport orders to have people picked up to be evaluated for commitment.

Pretty useless stuff, isn't it?

So laugh, but I am seriously thinking that my degrees I have already are not enough and I might go back to school. Sigh.

If I were younger and bigger, I would be great for law enforcement.

You know as soon as I get accepted into a program, I will get a job offer. That is how it works, right?

Had I not let my ex-bf invest for me, I would not even need to consider working, but alas, I was a fool.

Besides, I like school.

It will get me out of the house and away from the Unpaying, Ungrateful Tenant, my daughter. My socks are disappearing at an unprecedented rate. My dogs are wimpering. She still plans to bring her kitten here, once she gets it declawed. I am allergic to cats, and have just been letting old Wiz live her feline life out here with me out of compassion. I have all the beasts I can handle now. But I do understand, she loves the kitty. Sigh.

If this house were worth less, I would just abandon it to her. Alas, I can't do that. So I will check out the admission information.

Not laughing.  I honestly would think with your skills you would be in demand!

Are you going to pursue a degree or just take some classes?

Have you considered checking with victim advocacy groups? Most states have positions for trained advocates in order to insure the victim's interests are represented in court proceedings. I also think your skills could be useful as a civilian investigator working for law enforcement in cases of violence. The Mesa Police Dept. (AZ) has a multi-agency approach to handling cases like this with their Center Against Family Violence. Check it out. It might be time to start something like that in your area.

I can picture it now, the introductions at Basket Weaving 101: "My name is Suzy. I'm hiding from my daughter, wimpering dogs and cats that make me sneeze. Otherwise, I'm only here because my ex-boyfriend was a dumbass."

I think it is great that you are going to persue another career.  Yes, it is good to get out of the house.  I didn't know your daughter lives with you.  I see now that I need to check here more often and that laugh is on me LOL !!!  On a serious note, I really do miss coming here when I miss out and I read all your entries when I finally get my fat self here.

They say that retirement is not what it used to be and that very few people are cut out for it and I am not surprised that you are going back to school and then work since you are very active.

Hugs,
Anita

The knowledge you have in social services is so deep and important, but I know what you mean, they're not that transferrable if you want to do something else.  I have a feeling you're a fantastic teacher, Suzy-- is it possible for you to teach about those issues?  --Albert
