Bees, hornets, wasps

Hello, my name is Susan and I have an issue. I am deadly fearful of bees, wasps and hornets. I went many years without a sting and got stung last year by a territorial hornet. I wasn't even near any flowers, and he doesn't pay the property taxes, either. I was ripping some weeds out of the bushes when I felt something on my arm. It swelled up, turned very red, and had a nasty little green center in it for weeks. I had no breathing difficulties, so my main fear is, well, pain. Also, my reaction could escalate. My niece has been told she now gets 7 minutes before she has to use her epi-pen or she will die.

If anyone knows how to scare the buggers off so they won't attack me, my neighbors and I would appreciate it. I need to do some landscaping while I can still open the doors. I try to go early and late in the day when they should be sleeping, but still, I get edgy out there. I have to use sunscreen, and they probably like that stuff. I use no perfumes before I go out, and I don't take any sugary drinks outside or food, either.

Currently I start in one area, and when I see one, I move to another area. I am very polite and do not hesitate to respect their need to dominate my yard.

If one ever gets inside my clothing, you might as well get a camera. I will not hesitate to rip off everything and run.

I sympathize with getting ouchified by the critters that fly..... There are a few things you can do help your situation but none of it is easy. You already got the part about not wearing perfumes, etc. Even a little feminine flowery deodorant can attract them sometimes... not even in great quantity. Its best if your hiking friends have an understanding and go au naturale with the deodorant sometimes. One BIG thing you can do is avoid dark clothing.. Wear white/lighter colors whenever possible if you're outside worried about bees. For some reason, dark colors aggitate them. If you're ever in a swimming pool and get stung, do not dive under. They like waiting and won't go anywhere. Get out of the pool and run. Bees will not normally continue an attack beyond 1/3 of a mile. You'll still get stung maybe but you'll be away and stop the attack.... Also, flailing at them just excites them and triggers more pheremones (the way they communicate) and exaserbates the problem. Do not swing at them (easy to say, hard to practice).. its best to cover your eyes, face as best as possible and get out of dodge.

This is far from all inclusive but just some of the highlights we had to go through in our training on Africanized bees here in Arizona. If you'd like more links, info.. lemme know....

P.S.. My camera is ready :-)

Nothing on Earth works better than NAPA brand brake cleaner. It causes instantaneous death. That's not all. Last year I sprayed it on a small group. The ones who got the most died instantly and the rest who were only misted came after me. NAPA brake cleaner is flammable. Aim the can and light the spray-- instant blow torch. Nothing flies through that. You can kill hundreds that way and melt the vinyl siding at the same time. The flames work great on whole hives.

Normally in the house I use Right Guard. That will kill almost anything! But I will try the brake fluid if it helps.

I had an allergic reaction as a child to a bee sting. Ever since, I've been afraid of them.  My neighbor pours gasoline on their hives. They burrow under ground. Always wear shoes out in the yard.
